New England Basketball News, Recruiting, Rankings, Videos and Training
Last night was one of the matches we were itching to see, well actually two. Wayne Selden vs Andrew Wiggins and #3 in the country TIlton,NH vs #4 Hunnington Prep. WV. Wiggins is widely considered a top two prospect in the country while Selden across most boards is top ten. We heard whispers last week at the National Prep Showcase that some scouting services were un-impressed with Selden and were going to drop him in the rankings. All we could do is shake our head because we are based out of New England we know that Wayne is his best when playing against elite competition. In the Summer we watched him Battle the best Senior in Massachusetts, Notre Dame commit Pat Connaughton at Hoganz Classic scoring over 20 points and leading his team to VIctory.
We were confident in his matchup against Wiggins for the simple reason that if Wayne could dominate current pro's and d1 college players physically and athletically this summer at the Boston Pro-Am, then we couldn't imagine any sophomore giving him problems. Most people think Selden's game is all about being bigger, stronger, faster and jumping higher then the next man but they are gravely mistaken. Since we first saw him play from the age of 13 Wayne has had the most amazing court-awareness of any non point guard we have seen across the region. He knows how lullaby a defender into biting on his pump fake drive hard to the basket and either finishing or making a pass the only elite point guards should be able to make. Selden scored 18 points while Wiggins was only able to score 7 points. While we don't feel that this one showing should necessarily propel him to the top position, the gap between the players should be closed and the critics silenced.
Tilton as they sometimes do, started off slow utilizing there patterned diamond press that a well coached Hunnington Prep squad broke quickly. They were able to finish at the basket mainly because of stellar play of there big man Elijah Macon (Committed to West Virigina) and led 14-9 after the first quarter. After making an adjustment Tilton switched to man to man, something the critics said they could not play and held Hunington to only 4 points in the second quarter, the rest was history.Tilton never looked back and behind Wayne Seldens 18 and George Niang's 15 points they went on to finish the game 53-48.
*TIlton only really goes 6-8 deep in good games and there five starters all played on both last years 16u national champiship Babc team as well as the 17u Nike peach Jam championshop team!! Altough there not remarkably deep these kids are winners how do you beat this type of chemistry?!
5 Guys Who Bleed Black And Gold
6'5 Wayne Selden - led all scorers in the game with 18 while grabbing 5 rebounds and a couple of assist. Selden is not just dominant in his class he is dominant at any age group once his competitive fire is lit. A devoloping aresenal of moves to get him the rim and body control that allows him to finish in multiple ways, will keep him high in rankings untill his high school departure.
*its arguabale the Wayne Selden and Noah Vonleh are two of the best in New england and the country 2014 RANKINGS.
6'7 George Niang - Is continualy proving that nobody in high school basketball can stop him, scoring 15 points on the night. At 6'7 with three point range, abiltity score back to the basket on everyone and athletic enough to beat defenders off the dribble and dunk on them, is Niangs transformation to a small forward almost 100% complete?
6'2 Dominque Bull -When Bull first committed to URI people questioned what position would he play at the next level. He now runs the #3 team in the country from the point guard position sacrificing his own scoring opportunities leading his team to a currently unblemished record.
6'11 Nerlens Noel - The best shot blocker in the country led Tilton last night in bloc..... assist? Like his aau coach Leo Papile was quoted at nike peach jam "Nerlens is one of the best passing big men in the country". Noel now puts the ball on the floor and drives either direction in the open and half court settings... how much scarier can this kid get?
6'9 Goodluck Okonoboh - Is flat out playing the best basketball we have seen him in some time. A couple years ago when he lead Babc to a Gymrats Challenge Championship he was widley considered the best player in his class in New England. He is blocking shots, rebounding and scoring in the post at rate very close to his twin (Non- Paternal) Nerlens Noel.
Next Up Ricardo Ledo and nationally ranked South Kent(CT) we will be there..
Good Article. Ready to see this matchup
